First conceived by Dieter Roth in the late 1970s, Roth Bar is a dynamic and changing installation, and a continuing element in the Roths' cross-generational practice.
Artist Oddur Roth, grandson of the late German-born Swiss artist Dieter Roth, lived and worked in Bruton, UK between January and April 2024, and together with his team reimagined Roth Bar as a new fully functioning, site-specific artwork within the Threshing Barn at Hauser & Wirth Somerset.
Inspired by the history of Durslade Farm, Roth Bar is composed of salvaged materials and objects from reclamation yards in the surrounding area, and is activated as a fully functioning bar for specific events.
The objects you see are things you might know from childhood or have had in your home. It gives it a comfortable atmosphere, inviting you to stay and lose track of time.
The artwork is available to view during gallery opening hours and is activated as a fully functioning bar for specific events. Opening hours: Wednesday to Sunday, 12pm – 5pm.

Bruton station is under a 10 minute walk away from the site. From the train station turn left up the hill and follow the gravel footpath and signs to Hauser & Wirth Somerset.
